 Kangra fort:
The result of the recent restorations is admirable and makes this a
‘must visit’ historical spot. The Kangra fort is one of the oldest dated
forts in India. It is also known for its strength as the Nagarkot fort of
Bhim Kot. It's antiquity dates back to the Vedic period, but historically it
has been mentioned by the Greek scribes in Alexander's war records. The
golden age of the Kangra kingdom began with Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch,
who at the age of 16 years recaptured the fort from the Mughal invaders.
Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch was the patron of the famous Kangra school of
miniature paintings. A museum is in the planning which will turn a visit to
the Kangra fort into an even more interesting experience.
